Posted by Shoes For Crews Europe on 21-Jul-2016 09:34:34

This year, from 22 to 25 October, the Olympiade der Köche (the International Culinary Exhibition) will be taking place in Erfurt, Germany. For chefs, it's popularly known as the Culinary Olympics where talented chefs compete head-to-head individually and in team competitions. Think of MasterChef but on a grander world stage.

Some History on the International Culinary Exhibition

The Culinary Olympics has been going on for over a 100 years.

The idea of a having a culinary exhibition came from a group of German chefs in 1896. They wanted to promote German cuisine but also experience other cusines from around the world. Four years later, in 1900, the first Culinary Olympics took place in Frankfurt. Only four nations participated in the first exhibition, however over time this event has grown in size and was held every four years.

Despite being temporarily banned during WWII, the International Culinary Exhibition has continued to be a popular event for chefs and this year, there will be 45 nations competing.

In 2012, Sweden won the Olympic victory and gold medal. They wowed judges with their impressive three course meals and used traditional cooking styles and ingredients.

The winners of the silver medal was the Norwegian National Team. They also excelled with their traditional dishes, it was a close call between Norway and Sweden for the Culinary Olympic crown.

Proud wearers of our SFC slip-resistant shoes, we wish the Norwegian team all the best in October!
